BUA MODIRI forms part of an ongoing partnership between the African Centre for Migration & Society (ACMS) at Wits University and the Sisonke National Sex Worker Movement in South Africa.

This website is an experimental approach to documenting a workshop encounter and the various moments that occur in an arts-based project. Here you will find a blog about BUA MODIRI, a poster and sticker project with sex workers in Louis Trichardt, also popularly referred to as Makhado, a small town in northern Limpopo. We share details of the workshop process and a portfolio of selected creative works the participants made (and selected) for public audiences. The aim of the website is to provide a symbolic and practical representation of a workshop space and the tangible and intangible processes linked to knowledge-making and meaning-making processes.

Arts-based approaches can open up a space for meaning-making that emerges out of emotion, intellect, paradox and imagination.
